Major researches of this discipline are in the areas of vertical wind power system, LED lighting system, special robot, precision measurement technology, and nondestructive testing, etc.

This discipline led in a Shanghai Science and Technology Project to develop a star-shaped vertical axis wind and light complementary system to control the brightness of LED street lights. A small vertical wind power generation equipment was designed and built. It was used as the lighting control system. The ‘LED low power driver’ project won the third prize (excellent production-study-research combination projects) in Shanghai. The related products were successfully used in the lighting of the theme pavilion and YuYuan garden landscape during the 2010 world Expo. In the areas of intelligent detection technology and robotics research, the discipline has also developed a vertical or horizontal cylindrical measuring instrument, surface roughness measuring instrument, a precision instrument to measure various parameters of leathers, and etc. Some prototypes built include a vertical cylindricity measurement instrument, a horizontal cylindricity measurement instrument, a precision leather measurement instrument, an automatic precision brush plating machine, an automatic precision spraying machines, and etc. In nondestructive testing technology research, ultrasonic nondestructive testing and eddy current nondestructive testing research projects for Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile, Dongfeng Automotive, Benteler Automotive Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. have been completed. Preliminary studies of on-line detection of coal gas-solid two phase flow were also completed in cooperation with Shanghai Boiler Factory Co., Ltd.
