The main research fields of School of Mechanical Engineering of SIT are green intelligent manufacturing technology, and nondestructive testing and control. School of Mechanical Engineering of SIT has research features and advantages in surface engineering and precision testing.Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) Superhard Coating and Equipment was approved in 2018.

 In 2020, School of Mechanical Engineering won the second prize of Shanghai science and Technology Progress Award of Shanghai, and in 2016,won the third prize of Shanghai science and Technology Progress Award of Shanghai. In the recent five years, the funding for research is more than 40million RMB where the funding for occupies over 80%. And the research of the is supported by 8 items of the National Natural Science Foundation of China within 5 years. School of Mechanical Engineering of SIT has more than 40 long-term cooperated Bases of Production, Education & Research, 8 university-enterprise united laboratories, an area of approximate 8000 square meters for Laboratory, and equipment assets valued over 50 million RMB.
